The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins (review)

Exactly how do I begin to review this? Don't laugh at me, but recently I read Artemis Fowl and wondered if creative writing could get any better than it...HAHA. Then, I came across the Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins. Well, not came across exactly, it was pushed into my face from every direction; the papers, the telly, the siblings...and next thing you know, I was hooked!

It doesn't actually say so in the book, but apparently set in a post-apocalyptic world. The city of Panem has 12 districts (once there was a 13 but it has since been obliterated). Every year, the Capitol(government) host the Hunger Games. Think like an annual Olympics.

Each District has to choose a boy and a girl rep meaning there will be a total of 12 x2 =24 contestants in the hunger games. From here on it's like Survivor, in an arena that is specially engineered by the game makers..but one doesn't just get voted off. You literally have to survive till the end to win.

Anyway, the story is told in first person point of view of our heroin Katniss Everdeen. It is fast paced, and full of surprises. I love that Katniss is very intelligent as you read how she overcomes obstacles or challenges using her brains. She partners Peeta (I hate saying the name out loud) and together they take on the games. But the catch is, only one person can win. The rest have to die.

I think what makes it such a popular read is the brilliant novelty of the idea (something that Harry Potter had as well...and maintained throughout the seven books). It's something that no one has really read of before, plus it keeps us on the edge of our seats. There is also the slight romance that she throws in (love it! Who doesn't?). All the characters are distinct in their personalities and she really makes them grow on you despite their flaws. Well some of them.

I always feared that the novelty would wear off in the third book in a way that would put the reader off. Hastily explained circumstances or weird facts thrown in in answer to a strange occurrence but nothing of the sort happened. It also doesn't dawdle, taking half a page to describe the wind blowing. As beautiful as that type of writing is, I simply will not be able to hang on for long *cough cough* LOTR *cough*. Instead Collins writing is fast paced and for the most part straight to the point.

She also deals with such powerful themes like sacrifice, hunger for power and just how far one is willing to go in order to achieve your goal. . Ultimately you always enjoy a book that leaves you thinking about things you would otherwise take for granted. That, for me is true quality writing. Reality in fiction. I enjoy Jodi Picoult novels because of this as well.

Right, lets end this. I love the books and anyone looking for a book WORTH your time, (tear jerking at times) then this IS IT. Do NOT look up the books on Wikipedia or even GLANCE at the movie trailers and promo posters because you might not like it and not read the books. Anyway it's always more fun when you imagine the characters faces yourself before seeing what the directors come up with.

I sincerely hope this isn't the last we see of Suzanne Collins.

Hello everyone, I hope you haven't been spending your holidays getting bitten by dogs or getting honked at by rude, blind, insensitive motorists. None of that?!. well life is good then.

I don't know if you've heard of the Twilight series written for preteens by Steph Meyers? Anyway this book was adapted into a film and well, the rest is history.

I realise that a good portion of the world today has dedicated large amounts of their time to hate Twilight. Publicly. Every chance they get. No, not just Kristen Stewart's acting but the whole bloody vampirific (new vocab alert!) phenomenon, when in fact there exists so many other opportunities to invest their anger in...if you're into that sort of thing.

1. Disney cartoon SEQUELS

I honestly believe if we directed more concern in that direction, Disney will stop trying to ruin these awesome fairy tales we have and turn them into disgusting anime character low budget extensions of the originals . Little Mermaid 2, Cinderella 2, Beauty and the Beast 2 and Pocahontas 2 should never have seen the light of day. if we take reasonable steps now, who knows, we might be preventing the birth of some crossbreed dwarf-human in Snow White 2 Return of the Dwarfs.

From the bottom of my heart, Twilight haters, your anger is misdirected. Watch this bloody scene and tell me it is NOT the most ridonkulous waste of makeup that you have ever witnessed. A scene that was supposed to bring the whole epic tale to a close ended up.....sigh...comical.

yes. I. giggled.

Anger is a beautiful emotion and should not be wasted only on Twilight.

It's really more publicity for them...Twilight becomes bigger, then it OWNs the Box Office, then it is mistaken for an EPIC film (along the ranks of LOTR, god forbid)

There are more pertinent questions in the entertainment world that require our immediate attention

In my last end-of-semester-post I shamelessly created a poem in the most atrocious BM about my classmates.

Well, for those of you who don’t know, I’m no longer with exactly the same people.

In fact early last year, we were reshuffled and well, let me introduce you to a few new classmates of mine.

We’re still good friends that much is true..

But here are some new people that I should introduce too.

At first it was hard to adjust,

I wondered why we were put to this test,

Mei- Mei seems wise beyond her years,

And is certainly more serious than most of her peers,

Moga is probably one of the nicest girls,

First of all thank you God for granting me life thus far. It’s nice to have you to believe in no matter what. It has been a pretty awesome journey so far, and I would not have it any other way.

Apparently, turning 21 is a big deal because you can LEGALLY do whatever you’ve been doing since you were 18. ;P

But really, your parents are just happy that they have managed to keep you that long.

In other words, think of it like a bantal busuk...or a pillow that you’ve held on to, for as long as you remember...

No matter how smelly, stained, unwashed you are, with mucos and saliva stains...you still love the pillow, in fact, the longer you keep it, the more prouder you are.

SAME CONCEPT!

The older you get the prouder your parents are that they still have youuu!

Lol...if that doesn't make complete sense, I apologize. No, why should I?....go figure it out la you!

The Klang gang did it nine days earlier, and the Kedah gang did it three days later, so yes... I did not expect a thanggg!!

Hello everyone, I hope you're not in the midst of examinations. If you are, take a break!

So I haven't mentioned it here, but we err...have...taken in...another puppy. The word 'got' implies that we obtained it through legitimate means but it was more like this....

But Laura Ann (sister) has gotten quite responsible with cleaning up after her.

My mum leaves the gate open once in a while, and today, my dad saw Midnight (puppy's name) taking a leak OUTSIDE! yay!! smart little doggy. Anyway, next appointment at the vet is on the 30th. I'll be back by then so, no worries Laura!

BLANK VERSE??

Oh yeah, happy new year to you and you and you...

So far so good. I'm really looking forward to start a brand new 2years in UPSI. But first we have to get through these exams....

We had Literature today, and just like Literature in school, there is not a moment where you can put your pen down, hardly any time to double check so make sure you get your facts right the first time round. ERGH. It has definitely been a while since my hands have written that fast. Anyway

Here's what made me chuckle...

There was a question that just stumped me. What is a blank verse?

What IS a blank verse?!?!?!

I skipped the question and did all the essays first and with two minutes left on the clock I figured instead of leaving it blank (as the answer...get it? BLANK verse) anyway i thought i would attempt...

so I wrote

this is getting worse...

all my brain kept picturing!!

Two types of guys

Trifles

Hey everyone, I was just reading Trifles, a pretty ingenious play written by Susan Glaspell which tells of the trifles or seemingly insignificant details that the women in the play notice. The men on the other hand are condescending in their dialogue and mock the women for their petty problems.

ANYWAY, this got me thinking, are all men like that?

Certainly a few lecturers I have come across...but... ALL men?? I certainly hope not.

Next, I thought of analysing the guys in my class to see what they were like, but then it HIT ME! I had the perfect opportunity to test the theory out.

When the boys in my class play futsal in the evenings, occasionally they don’t have enough players. When they are desperate they call me in to fill up the spot, and later on if people do come, they are too nice to tell me to get out.

Firstly, let me just say,

ME CANNOT PLAY FUTSAL

Just like dancing, I can’t play foot related sports that well, because I was born with poor brain-feet coordination. Yes, you could say I am retarded in that department.

So having a girl PLUS a handicapped player is not what everybody wants but here are two different types of guys that I have played with, and you decide which one you like better. No, I will decide.

TYPE 1

Type one, will tell me to stand at the goal post. To just stand there and do nothing, because yes, we all know I’m a liability and may get in the way, BUT STILL... if that is my “JOB” honestly I’d rather jog...

And fine, but sometimes this one will shoot by himself...and if he doesn’t score...OH MY GOODNESS

then I’m like...=.=’’’’ I hate you.

TYPE 2

Type 2 also knows that I am hopeless but will say things like. “Come on Liza tackle, Liza, jaga die, Takpa takpa good try (I shot an own goal)... and at least I feel sort of useful...LOL....and this type of guy passes me the ball because there is a chance that I mIGHTTTT score....

So in life, you don’t want to end up with a man who falls under TYPE 1 who doesn’t think you amount to much, doesn’t think you can do anything and laughs at the fact that you MAY BE physically weaker.

*do I sound like I have been in and out of relationships??* LOL...

Men under type 2 will see your strong points, and let you play the game so to speak...and make you feel better about your self...

I know after reading, ignoring the whole point, my mother will probably call and say “What is this LISS... you playing football with boys??!!? Chehhh.”

and then my mother will ask "you have a boyfriend ah??" "don't lie ah Lizz.."

and then she'll conclude with..."anyway you stick to jogging...don't let anyone see you play football la...chih"

But anyway, my fears are eased because not ALL men are egoistic male chauvinist pigs..

It just dawned on me that after this miserable week of lousy assignments *because they're all in BM* it will be the end of our first Degree year! As in I can say that...

EYE AM IN MY SECOND YEAR.

In a way I'm glad that I've kept this blog. It shows how much I've changed since I was 18 pfft....
There have been no mushy posts...till now...much to my mother's relief I'm sure.

I don't know if that change can be called growing up... but I definitely feel like I have.

A while back, my father asked me what I was good at.

Have you been asked by your father , " actually, what are you good at?"

at first i was a bit hurt and annoyed

And I still think there is a MUCH better way of phrasing that question.

However, I realized that I rock at a lot of things! and then it didn't hurt so much anymore.

You see, everyone has their own bit of awesomeness tucked away inside them and once you find it, let it show.

Which is why, my coming new year's resolutions are to stand up for everything I believe in and for what is right, not to be swayed by other people's thoughts, and to let my bit of awesomeness show!

Anyway it sort of reminded me of my cousin Pat and I when we were 15 and had no life...and tried to compete on who was funnier...we would count marks and write them in a book for goodness sake! we had comic drawing competitions and asked our friends to judge...i'll dig them out and post when i get the time....but erghh looking back now...none of those comics were funny!!! NONE..

Now, whenever we make a good joke, the compliment will usually be "one point" in memory of that stupid game....LOL...

Funny, how I came about watching this movie. You see the original plan was to watch the oh-so-awesome, raved about, REAL STEEL. But we weren’t in time to catch that, so we settled for this.

No spoilers I promise.

If you want a brief summary, think about a world where money was out of the equation and time was THE currency of life.

You age until 25 and then stop. After that, you are given a year to your life. You work, you earn more time.

You waste time, your loss.

There are poverty stricken time zones (the ghettos) and the filthy rich time zones (Greenwich). It is an unfair world, the rich get richer the poor...die...

...much like today.

Anyway, Justin Timberlake and Amanda SifadterfuGFYD do make a cute couple. But that’s it. I predicted the lines on two occasions. Plus, I hated her hair in the movie. I hope she will not forever be “the dumb one” from Mean Girls for me.

The idea is a bit out there, but I applaud its trying to make us think outside what we believe possible.

But since Lord of The Rings, only the epic is meant for the big screen.

You’re not missing much if you catch it on DVD.

Becoming famous: childhood fantasy or possible reality?

Hello reader, I sincerely hope your day was relatively awesome without any crushing heart-to-hearts or period cramps or smell of decaying animal around the porch...none of that? good to hear...

Now remember when we were five (or thereabouts) and dreamt of becoming rich and famous...

Yes it all started with that que sera sera song (lyrics here)...

And then we subsequently ditched that dream in place of what I call insanely predictable life....

But now, I’ve been doing some thinking (yes I do that occasionally) and figured that it is rather easy to become famous these days.

What with youtube and facebook encouraging us.

I mean all you have to do is screw up these days...and instantly...

Hence, I’ve dug up that dried and shriveled up dream of mine and am giving it another go

The word “literally”

Today’s topic is one that I’ve read about in another grammar blog www.theoatmeal.com but have never realised the importance of.

Until I looked around and noticed that... i was hearing the word a lot.

Yes it seems like a big word, it IS FOUR syllables

and to the average person you might even be hailed as a genius...but here’s the thing folks

If you misuse the word, you’re automatically a dumbass..

You see the problem is most people think of “literally” like it’s some common adverb

But its not

So when you say

“He literally drives me up the wall”...wait what???

“I literally killed myself doing that!”....how izzz you talking right nowww??

When Is It Okay???

So obviously I’m not going to leave you hanging.

Exactly wnen can you use the word “literally”

Well the way I see it, it’s like the Midas Touch where everything you touch turns gold....

only with “literally”, when you say it, you actually mean it in a literal sense.

When you say it, everything....becomes REALLL

Planned to iron out batik at 10pm. Two hours later...After aseries of unfortunate events driven by pure procrastination, I dragged the stubbornlyscrunched up cloth down the stairs to the ironing room. Forgot to bring water. Shit.Ironing batik is labour intensive. I know that now. Without water, five minutesof pressing, can turn into a cruel two hours of delusional, paranoia of seeingcreases disappearing, and watching them menacingly grow back in the exact samespot. Yes, grow. At one point I hoped I would burn a hole in it!

Let me describe the IPDA batik. It’s blue, has swirly patterns,and was made in a place called Crinkle Hell.

NOw, where was I?

While most of my peers were really and truly enjoying their holidays; travelling to Europe, vacationing at the beach and eating pretty much anything they wanted or in other words shake legs or in other words goyang kaki, I decided to become a slave.

But since slavery was a new experience, at first I was a happy slave...

But I have never been able to handle doing the same thing for long periods of time....and after a while I started off on a downward spiral of self loathing, and immense pity and hatred of life.

I felt trapped and the world could see me but no one would help me.

Okay maybe that was when I tripped in the display window, and people stared

BUT STILL...it became a shitty life...

I also suffer from very very mild autism....and must sit in the same spot for my break everyday. The bench outside on Niichi. If someone else sits there....i get paranoidd...people might be looking, I'll never be able to eat, they STOLE my spot....

But Then Life Got Better...

HOW???

NUMBER 1. I made some pretty awesome friends at work. Nurul and Yongfei, Fard, Izzat, Kahfai, Siew ying, Hui shien, Anas and Bernard, and Ai Kee!. they made life bearable la.

NUMBER 2 Frequent visits from my friends HAHA. Jes, Pat and Eliz, Evon, Azah came by more than once to have a word, or criticize the jeans. Lol.

NUMBER 3 a huge sense of fulfillment that accompanies when I recommend a jeans type or take someone's measurements and they're happy with what they've tried on.

Let me tell you, picking out jeans that fit right is hard and takes a good 20 minutes

4 TYPES OF customers

1. The window shopper

. The window shoppers come in big groups of friends or with the whole family; they have no intention of spending 20 minutes trying on jeans. They make a very fast round through the shop and exit.

2. Unplanned spenders

Unplanned spenders are loaded but walk in rather aimlessly by themselves or with a girlfriend. They look at jeans, they look at blouses, then they browse through shoes, and if you’re lucky they happen to like a belt. They’ll get it and GO.

3. Target shopper

Have you heard that before? When you smile at someone, it is nearly impossible for that person to frown back at you. In fact, he will most likely smile in return....unless he was in the middle of a divorce or something like that....

Standing for 6 hours straight can get very boring and sometimes induce suicidal thoughts...but that’s just my job.

For those of you who don’t know, I recently hooked up with Levis jeans part time as a sales assistant

At times, when there are no more jeans left to fold, all a sales girl can do is stand and wait for customers.

And this is when you practice smiling.

Hello everybody. I live in the attic now.

Anyway since I was kindly given FOUR months by the government to bum away, I gratefully decided to work.

In order to work you have to LOOK for a job.

When we were little, my siblings and I loved bed time stories. my dad was the usual target.

Every night, we would beg and beg my father to tell us one of his tales.

When he was really sleepy this is how it would go.

Us: Papa! Papa! Tell a story la!

Papa: aiyo not today la

Us: tell la tell la! *jumps on bed*

Papa: *yawnnnnnn* ok ok. Once a upon a time...

Us: *sshh...quiet...papa started...

Papa: once upon a time....

Us: yesss?? Yessss??

Papa: there was a dog....

Us: oooohhhh

Papa: whose name was rover...

Us: Oh ok..then??

Papa: once there was a dog whose name was rover and....the story is over...*smiles*

We fell for that EVERY TIME! EVERY TIME I tell you!

On days he did prepare, my siblings and I never got fairy tales with happy endings. My dad preferred telling us scary stories from his past, or gory little tales that he had heard...to...put us to sleep.

When your roommate discovers Skype

Recently I noticed a lot of blogs on living with roommates and how it can be tough. I would also like to add my two cents worth but not all of it is bad. ..

There are a lot of boundaries that I have broken down since I started living with a roommate. I have learnt to trust more and depend on her during emergencies, when I'm not around.

HOWEVER my roommate has recently started to Skype with her boyfriend at her desk. And here are some of the problems that I face.

1. Changing

I'm never sure if the computer is angled away from my bit of space, and I DO NOT want to end up performing a striptease for ANYBODY !!!

2. Sleeping.

I'm sure the camera gets my bed as well. And I sleep like an animal so I really don't think it’s appropriate if he notices my funky moves in bed.

3. Walking around.

My roommate puts on a jacket every time she Skypes. Of course you can't expect me to put on my blazer in my own room. So there I am in the background, awkwardly darting around in my singlet and shorts=.= Very very inconvenient.

4. Digging your nose.

Of course this is the most serious issue that I have to deal with because I like to maintain the cleanliness of my nostrils in the privacy of my room. But now EVEN THAT is gone! Do YOU like picking your nose with someone looking? See what I have to go through?!?!

5. Turning around

From where I sit, if I happen to stretch or turn around, BOOM I see a huge face on the screen staarinnnnggggg at meee. JEEZ. Basic movements hampered.

So what have I been doing about it?

I almost told her ...

1. That she was robbing me of my privacy

2. That I felt like I was being violated by a pervert every day...

But she discovered a solution.

THERE’S A SOLUTION!!!

You have to sit with the laptop facing you and the wall behind you.

1. i usually Spend RM 20 on tickets and food. With that money you could have dinner for a week, but who cares when there’s a hot guy acting in a movie.

2. Go early and take photos next to live size posters (preferably next to the hot guy in the poster). Proceed by taking photos of our popcorn, drink and tickets as PROOF that WE WERE HERE!!!

3. Finish half the popcorn while waiting for the cinema to open

4. Finish the other half while watching the advertisements before the movie.

5. Keep chewing on and re-spitting the hard corn kernels into the box, during the movie.

6. Even though I know I'm ruining the mood for EVERYBODY, I still pass my popcorn/chachos/cheezels/any noisy food down the whole row offering my friends.

7.When it comes back, put a few in my mouth and wonder if I should pass the popcorn again.

8. Pass the popcorn again but no one cares anymore, (Shut up and keep your chips).

I’m telling you, if you don’t own small talk, you are a LOSER and will have no friends for the rest of university life.

Okay here’s the absolute, plain and simple truth. I am LOVING the fact that IPDA are excusing us from all of their activities. Of course the word they might choose is “EXCLUDING” instead of “excusing”...but...whatever..

And it all started when UPSI invited us over to their campus for orientation. When IPDA heard about it, they were furious (hyperbole). We were called big headed and “tunjuk perangai” behind our backs which creates the impression that we’re arrogant little punks, which we ARE NOT of course, in fact as people, we get along with students from other courses just fine.

Today we had our GRP (Gotong royong Perdana..lol). It’s an annual affair that my course mates and I have gotten used to. We had it in 2009, we had it in 2010. . I must say, we came all semangat in our PJ attire, however this year since IPDA has rejected its one litter of puppies (the B.ED TESL) group, we didn’t get a plot to clean. Oh well, more free time for us.

We are also not invited to join in the Annual Sports Day. Okay this one, I’m a bit bummed out about because, I actually enjoy sports day. =S oh well.

DO NOT have to go for the all important BIG camp (Bina ~~Insane~~ Insan Guru) haha, which is just a lot of paperwork, camping on campus and talks...

Who knows what else we’ll have to miss out on.

Ooh and here’s the other thing, since we’re marked as UPSI students, we follow UPSI’s academic calendar. That means, we get a four month break starting in May but until then classes as usual.

The rest of college get off in March for a week...jealous much?? NOT at all actually.

Why???

NO. 1 its just one week.

No.2 what are the chances of getting ANY studying/ revision done then? (nothing in my case)

No.3 I hate buying bus tickets and the whole travelling process.

Don’t get me wrong, I love going back home, but we really do have a lot of work to get done, especially group work type of things.

The best part of the holidays is staying up late, and waking up because my dads calling us down for nasi lemak and coffee for breakfast and yes, the house is alive!

I also hate bad dreams. When I was younger I used to dream about shark attacks and lions mauling me.

I just had a dream and I'd like to share it with you.

Up until last night, my dreams have been pretty grounded, nothing out of the ordinary, mostly about people I interacted with recently...(sort of like how facebook chooses your top friends) lol

But this time, it was Epic.

I slayed a dragon. Full stop. Epic. Full stop. My brother died. Full stop.

not this little guy. that would be like killing a cicak.

it was like this! i was wearing that armor also!

In my dream, Marc( my younger brother) and I were looking for swords, shields, helmets and armor for our battle with the dragon.

Marc suddenly wanted to be the one to kill it.

I felt sad at the same time relieved that someone else was willing to do it, because I was terrified.

MaRc went out first but his shield was made out of paper. The dragon killed him almost immediately.

We battled in the dry river bed of the White River in Italy. (don't know if this river exists)

I've never had a more thrilling, adrenaline pumped dream EVERR!!!

I think people need to pay attention to their dreams sometimes, but reading interpretations like the above shouldn't be taken too seriously.

The dragon could mean anything in the world, whether my mother, or my brains, or my soul...it just sounds better coming from the mouth of Jung or Freud.

My Journey back to Klang

okay I simply wanted to alliterate the title, so ignore the weirdness.

Hey folks I'm back in Klang ( not to sound celebrity-like or anything) haha.

Right before I bore you to tears with the Taxi tale, A very HAppy CHINesE nEw YEaR to all my Chinese mates!! in Kedah and in Klang!...and all over the world! I thank you for this holiday the rest of us are enjoying!

Anyway, the man whom I called to take me to the bus terminal did NOT arrive. fifteen minutes to 10.45(boarding time) and I had no transport.

I called everyone I knew, and for some reason they all were not available. adoiiii!!

So I started walking! with my travel bag and backpack

at first I was just sad and wondered why all this had to happen today..

After tripping over my own bag twice, I kicked it and Then I started getting annoyed at everything led to this..

After a while, I became progressively hateful, on the verge of madness I think... I felt like throwing my bags in the drain! I cruelly picked on random things and cursed them

And at this point I started to resemble the picture at the top of this post.

and then suddenly

Zooming up beside me, two juniors from IPDA asked

"kak nak g mana?"

then I told them

and they said

"jom"

And I arrived on time for the bus, thanks to my new HEROES eh... Firstly thank God (knew he wouldn't just desert me)

By the way, the moral value here is Kepercayaan Kepada Tuhan... hehe

anyway those boys name's were Naqiuddin, and Syami...

Thank you thank you thank you. I said thank you! kind people can be found everywhere! they happened to be driving back to perlis and saw miserable me.

Hello again.

Laura and I

Firstly I would like to say that today something embarrassing happened to me, but then Lizamaria(me) is sooo used to embarrassing mishaps in her life, that this may be considered NOTHING at all. But when I told my neighbour, she nearly died. I kid you not. I bet my sisters would squeal if they found out!

*okay someone just walked into the room with the most dreamy perfume!* give me a moment to inhale deeply. haih....reminds me of my standard 3 days. hmmmm....hahhhhh...*

Once upon a time, my family was about to go to a dinner, and I thought the blouse I had on looked good. It was yellow and had stripes.

Anyway, since my sisters didn't give a sh**, I asked my 18 year old BROTHER what he thought.

Im sure he didn't give a sh** either but I asked in my usual annoying way. Of course I wanted him to agree.

ME: Marc nice right this blouse?

MARC: errr...okay la

ME: YEAH its so bright! damn nice right!?!? (I'll only talk like this in front of my family)

MARC: emmm

ME: what!??! what are you saying. Look at it lah.LOOKK!!! *twirls*

MARC: can see-through lah!

haaaa ambik kau! so then I shut up la...lol...and anyway, Marc is honest like that.

Anyway, the brat is in NS now and he went in like an ikan bilis so hopefully he'll come back like boom boom poww!!

A funny story to end this.

Tonight's meeting was cancelled because zainy had to play futsal at night. "Zainy" and "futsal" shouldn't be in the same sentence in the first place!

So to make him a bit guilty, I said emily and I had ridden a motorcycle to church and were now risking a traffic accident death to reach in time for the meeting. But Zainy didn't believe me, so I started blowing in the phone to make wind sounds. (we were actually in the van and zainy heard the karaoke music playing) so cheh that lie flopped.

but he was confused at first! muahahha..

I was pondering about the goodness of laughing, and came up with all sorts of uncomfortable situations where a laugh is secretly hiding. Drag the mofo out!

of course if one is having period cramps the exact moment a joker gets in your face, one is perfectly entitled to any violently explicit grunts or gestures. But on a period-free day (girls) bring out the smiles and it'll set the mood right for the whole day. I kid you not.

and I burst out laughing as well, because (damnit!) I didn't see that one coming...and little Arifuddin thought he was so funny, that I couldn't help but laugh.

In 2008, we attended Camp Disaster from church.

It was cut short because the priest got so angry because my parents complained about the discipline.

In one day, my two friends and I became PUBLIC ENEMY NUMBER 1

Because of us, camp had been cut short, and everyone was sent home.

Anyway,

the next week as we walked into class,
I heard a chorus of
"BOOOOOOO"
"BOOOOO"
"STUPID"

"BLOODY PRINCESSES"

Pat was got really angry and overturned a chair.

The whole class was tense.

But at that moment I just burst out laughing.

and couldn't stop.

In my head I was thinking,

"We affected their lives so much??? people actually booo their classmates??

(For the record, i hadn't done anything wrong at camp, and everybody is on talking terms now. Forgiven and forgotten)

I have a good friend by the name of Syafwan Omar, whos main aim in life is to see if I'll get angry.
I am NOT joking.
I found out one day, when he succeeded in making me yell..

and I burst out laughing because wow yes people like that do exist!

Not once have I forgotten to smile.
Syafwan is a really good guy and beneath all those lame jokes there is a good heart.

Here I would like to introduce my funny buddies

Funny buddies are the two or three people whom you cooperate closely with to produce some of the best humour of the day.

My original funny buddies are back in Klang and India respectively and we make magic. Enough said

And in Kedah, my funny team is made up of two girls called

Emily and Azie. They make class a bit more bearable. Azie is no longer in the same class but when the three of us do get together, there is LAUGHTER!

But one instance I do remember well, is when our LDV assignment was due.
It was group work.

We finished it 20 minutes past the deadline.

And I remember thinking "the shit has definitely hit the fan"
"things can't get any worse!"

and we ran to the staffroom puffing, panting and LAUGHING all the way

I'd rather not repeat what took place after that,
but Pn. Ranjani doesn't hate us now
we WILL NEVER try THAT AGAIN!!

Guilty of neglect!

I am guilty of neglecting Laura Ann. My little (form 4) sister. She entered the debate competition just like I did when I was her age, and just like in my case, my mother said she shouldn’t get involved in all this. But I think it’s very good for her to get exposed to debating because it boosts confidence, builds character and ultimately makes you a better and more objective thinker. So go Laura!

When I was debating, I had no elder sister to look to for help therefore we planned everything by ourselves. Teammates were none other than Jacinta Lopez and Elizabeth Hendroff. haha(good times).

But in little Laura’s eyes, chechi is there! Thank goodness! (chechi is elder sister in Malayalam)

So she rang me up and I asked her to get her team mates together to discuss their points and roles (for heaven sakes). I told her the role as 1^st speaker. I had an idea of what she could say, but I didn’t want to tell her exactly how to say it because I wanted her to do some work as well.

And at 11pm, we were discussing her point (debate the next day). Then I mentioned that she would have to take the reply speech. And she was like WHATTT IS THAATT???? She told me to stay awake and she would call later after writing out her point.

But I slept

And the next day I saw two heartbreaking messages “chechi you sleeping?’

And “chechi! how to do reply speech?!”

She can’t call me because Maxis is stooopid.

Sorry Laura. Hopefully, there won’t be reply speeches.

Living with a mirror the size of a tennis ball

Yes, the main reflective surface in my room is my compact mirror, which comes with powder.

Thinking about it now, its damn pathetic right?

BUT

I hate getting stuff like mirrors because there won’t be a permanent place that it can be. Every time I use it, I'll have to put it away. So, no. My roommate hung hers and whenever she needs to look at it, the mirror will be swinging in the wind and annoying the crap out of anyone.

Also,

A compact mirror forces you to look at every detail closely, lol, because only one part of your face can be seen at any one time. HAHA
